Jannik Sinner moved one step closer to retaining his Halle Open title after beating Yannik Hanfmann in the first round. In the second, he faces the man he dethroned, Alexander Bublik, in what will be the sixth match between them. The winner here will proceed to face Fabian Marozsan or Tomas Machac. We have a prediction below.

From his first-round performance against Hanfmann, Sinner has clearly moved on from the disappointing defeat at Roland Garros. 

The Italian was in his clinical fashion as he dismantled the qualifier. The last time he faced Bublik at Halle, the Kazakhstani won, so this is a chance at revenge.

Bublik has been on some run and will fancy his chances here. When he beat Sinner in 2023, he went on to win the title at Halle. That remains his only title on grass, and he will hope for another bullish run.

Facing the world No. 1 is the biggest stumbling block to his ambitions for this competition. Bublik has already lost to Jannik Sinner this year at the French Open.

That was one of his two defeats in the last 12 matches. The Kazakhstani doesn’t carry a great record against top-10 players, so that is another disadvantage coming here. He won just 12 of 25.
