Simona Halep may be the current number one in the world but like a few others who have held that position, she is yet to win a Grand Slam tournament. She has previously reached the final here in 2014 losing to Maria Sharapova in three sets and again last year when on that occasion she was defeated by Jelena Ostapenko after taking the first set. Halep is bidding to reach her second Grand Slam final of the year after getting to the final but losing to Caroline Wozniacki in three sets, surely that first title must come soon. She had to battle hard to get past Angelique Kerber in the quarter-final and also had a tough first round match having to come from a set down to beat Alison Riske. 

Her opponent was a lot more impressive in the last eight beating Maria Sharapova and only dropping three games in doing so. Garbine Muguruza won this title in 2016 and followed that up with victory at Wimbledon last year. She is ranked third in the world and has one title this year winning in Monterry on a hard court. Her form hasn't been too consistent going into this French Open but she has certainly made her mark this year and hasn't dropped a set so far in the tournament. Muguruza has won of her four matches against Halep but her opponents only win did come on clay in Stuttgart but that was three years ago and Garbine Muguruza has won two Grand Slams since then. She looks in the best form and can beat Halep to reach the final.
