Sheffield United vs Arsenal Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

Sheffield United will be trying to put their dismal home record back on track as they face off against Premier League title-chasing Arsenal at Bramall Lane on Monday Night Football. The Blades remain rock bottom of the Premier League table with just three wins all season, although one of those has come in their last three matches. In contrast, Arsenal are flying with five wins in a row in the Premier League and they remain third, two points off leaders Liverpool and one behind second place Manchester City.

Sheffield United - Arsenal: Form Analysis

Sheffield United come into this game still rooted firmly to the bottom of the Premier League table and with the worst goalscoring record in the league by eleven goals. The Blades have won just three games this season, two of those at home, drawing four and losing 19. Some of those have been. heavy defeats, notably at home where in the last three games, they have conceded 15 goals (five against Brighton twice and a further five against Aston Villa). They also shipped eight goals at home to Newcastle earlier in the season. Suffice to say, Chris Wilder's task seems a thankless one against the team with the best current record in the Premier League. Their most recent win came back on 10th Feb, a 3-1 win at Luton, byt that is their sole win in the league in the last 10. The Blades average just 0.85 goals per game, and concede 2.54 per game. Figures which should make good reading for Gunners fans.

In sharp contrast to their hosts on Monday night, Arsenal come into this game on the back of six straight wins in the Premier League, although they have tasted defeat away to FC Porto in the Champions League Round of 16 recently. In the Premier League though, the Gunners have been flying with 25 goals scored across those six wins, conceding just three. That is scary form for a top team taking on Arsenal, let alone a team bottom of the table and who have a dismal defensive record. Bukayo Saka has really caught the eye for Arsenal this season with 13 goals and some outstanding performances, especially of late where he has seven goals in his last five games. The Gunners have conceded just one goal in their last three Premier League away games, and they average a goal every 42 minutes away from home this season.

Sheffield United & Arsenal Squad Analysis

There's been a mix of good and bad news on the team news front for Sheffield United fans ahead of the game. The Blades lengthy injury list still contains Anis Ben Slimane, Cameron Archer, John Egan. Chris Basham, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Max Lowe, all of whom will be longer term absentees. Of those only Archer and Ben Slimane have a good chance of making it back into consideration by the end of March. Daniel Jebbison is also out with an unspecified illness and Everton loanee Mason Holgate is unavailable after his deserved red card against Brighton seeing him land a 3-game ban, the second of which will be this game. On the positive side, George Baldock and Ben Brereton Diaz both trained this past week and are back in contention for a place in the team against the Gunners. Man City loanee James McAtee has been the Blades best player this season, although to be fair he hasn't had much competition.

Arsenal have a relatively healthy squad for this stage of the season. Jurrien Timber is still out for a while due to the injury he sustained in mid-season but recent reports suggest he could be in for a return to first team action around the start of April. There are three possible doubts for the game at the weekend as Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu both returned to training in the week and provided they train over the weekend should be in consideration. Mikel Arteta has confirmed Thomas Partey will also make his return from injury in the squad for Monday night's game. The Gunners have had a fabulous season so far and several players have stood out for them including central defenders WIlliam Saliba and Gabriel, wingers Bukayo Saka and Emiliano Martinelli as well as midfielders Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Sheffield United - Arsenal Key Points

  1. Sheffield United have not won any of their last four at home, losing three. They have scored just four goals in those games, conceding 15. They have won 1, drawn 2 and lost 7 of their last 10 Premier League games.
  2. Arsenal are in stunning form at present winning all their last six Premier League games, scoring 25 goals in the process and conceding just 3. They have scored 15 goals in their last three games alone.
  3. Sheffield United have conceded 36 goals in just 13 home games this season. Scoring just 12.
  4. Arsenal have won all of their last three games away from home scoring 13 goals in the process and conceding just one. They have scored 28 goals in their 13 away games this season.
  5. Arsenal were convincing winners when the two teams met earlier in the season at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners winning 5-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Eddie Nketiah as well as single strikes from Fabio Vieira and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Our Sheffield United vs Arsenal Prediction

For this weekend's Sheffield United vs Arsenal game at Bramall Lane, there is nothing in the data at all to suggest anything other than a big win for the Gunners. From Sheffield United's abysmal defensive record at home, to Arsenal's exceptionally high-scoring current form home and away, this game has been one of the easiest to decipher in terms of which market to back. But we've gone for a little extra value here so our prediction for Sheff Utd v Arsenal is for Arsenal to win and Over 3.5 goals to be scored.

Sheffield United vs Arsenal - Other Interesting Predictions

Bukayo Saka to score 2 or more goals

The Arsenal and England winger Saka has been in sensational goalscoring form for Arsenal over the last few games. He is the leading goalscorer for Arsenal with 13 goals this season and is tied for six assists with Martin Odegaard. He has scored in Arsenal's last five Premier League games, scoring twice in two of them (away wins at West Ham and Burnley) and those game profiles match up well with this trip to Sheffield United. Our second prediction therefore is for Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) to score two or more goals.
