Things are getting nervy for Shamrock Rovers as they seek the point they need to clinch the Irish Premier League title. Next up, they face Galway United, themselves needing points to avoid a relegation playoff. Can the Hoops secure the point or more they need at Tallaght Stadium, or will the visiting Tribesmen condemn Rovers to a fourth league defeat in a row? Here's our match prediction.
The current Irish Premier League table shows Shamrock top and requiring just one point from their final two games to secure the title mathematically. The Hoops do have a much better goal difference than second place Derry City, so may have enough to win the league already. Galway occupy seventh, one of three teams on 38 points all battling to avoid a relegation playoff.
Shamrock's league title win seemed inevitable a few weeks back, but the team has got a bad case of title jitters. Since a 6-1 FAI Cup Semi Final win over Kerry, they have lost 1-0 to Shelbourne (H), 1-0 to St Patrick's Athletic (A), 2-0 to Celje (H) and then at the weekend, were beaten 2-1 by second-placed Derry City to mean the title is still not mathematically secure.
Galway United come into this game in good form. Since losing 1-0 at home to Sligo Rovers they have beaten Cork City 2-1 at home and then Bohemians 2-0 also at home. They had a fourth consecutive home game last weekend, drawing 1-1 with Drogheda United.
