Shamrock Rovers have opened up a six-point buffer at the Premier Division summit and will seek to extend it further this Saturday. In their 19th match of the season, the league leaders meet Galway United. Below is our prediction.

Shamrock Rovers registered a crucial away win last time out, beating Derry City. That result lifted them to 35 points, and they have now bagged five straight wins in the league. In each of those wins, they scored two or more goals and kept three clean sheets.

This form is also replicated at home, where Stephen Bradley’s men have posted three straight wins, all with clean sheets. They’ve recovered well from their defeat at home to Bohemians, collecting 10 points from a possible 12. 

Galway United are in bad shape coming into this match even though they are hoping to build on a win in their last outing. A late Conor McCormack goal last week helped secure a 2-1 win at home to Cork City.

That ended a run of four straight losses, but it was only their third win in the last 10 matches. Having failed to score in three of their last five league matches points to a struggling attack.

The imbalance with the defence is clear then, as they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in the last 10. Their last two away matches at Shamrock ended in draws, but they’re winless in five.
