With each team in the group playing three games, qualification into the knockout rounds will be for the top two nations. Read on to find our prediction of this match.
This is the third time that these two countries are facing off. Their first two encounters came 10 years ago, in the qualifiers for the 2015 AFCON tournament. Senegal won both home and away, scoring five goals without conceding. The Teranga Lions are once again coming here as the overwhelming favorites against the Zebras of Botswana.
Botswana are back at this stage after a 13-year absence and will only be making their second appearance. This match will also mark the fourth straight AFCON game where they face a West African opponent. In 2012, they met Ghana, Mali, and Guinea.

Senegal - Botswana: Form Analysis
Senegal have qualified for the continent’s biggest showpiece for a sixth consecutive time and will be looking to add to their 2021 title. The Lions of Teranga had a disappointing defence of their title in the last edition in Ivory Coast, falling to the hosts in the round of 16.
Now, under former Senegal international Pape Thiaw, the West Africans target to go all the way once again. Senegal qualified for this tournament unbeaten, winning five of six qualifiers.
In their most recent fixture, a friendly match played slightly over a month ago, Senegal thumped Kenya 8-0.
Botswana are searching for its first-ever win at the AFCON level.
Botswana aren’t as experienced as Senegal at this stage; this is only their second appearance at an AFCON. The Southern African nation first participated at this level in 2012.
It was a disastrous debut, as they lost all three of their group games, scoring just twice and conceding nine goals. In one match, the Zebras were hammered 6-1 by Guinea, one of the biggest scorelines in recent history.
In the qualifiers, Botswana was pooled in a tricky qualifying group that had World Cup-bound Egypt and Cape Verde, along with Mauritania.
They finished second behind Egypt. The COSAFA region nation hasn’t won any of its last five fixtures and lost 2-1 to Tunisia in a build-up game earlier in the week.

Senegal & Botswana Squad Analysis
Once again, Senegal have called up a star-studded side full of household names in some of the big leagues in Europe. Idrissa Gueye, Ismaila Sarr, Boulaye Dia, Nicholas Jackson, Iliman Ndiaye, and Sadio Mane are some of the big names in the squad.
Mane was in the team when Senegal last played Botswana and was amongst the scorers. As his nation’s leading scorer with 50 goals, he will be expected to make a big impact here.
Sadio Mane will be Senegal's main man, having scored 50 times for the Teranga Lions.
Botswana’s squad is filled with players who feature much closer to home. Only five players in the team play outside Botswana, and only one, defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe of Al Ittihad, plays outside Africa.
Two players, Tumisang Orebonye and Kabelo Seakanyeng, are well aware of their surroundings in Morocco as they ply their trade in the country.
Orebonye, who plays for Wydad Casablanca, has scored five goals for his country and was on target in the loss to Tunisia earlier in the week.

Our Senegal vs Botswana Prediction
Our prediction for the Senegal v Botswana match is for more than 2.5 goals. Senegal have been free-scoring; they are among the most potent teams in Africa. Seeing games in which they are involved in producing a high-scoring outcome has been a constant occurrence.
In their most recent outing, the Teranga Lions scored eight goals without reply. With their current squad filled with some of the game’s top talents, including Sadio Mane and Ismaila Sarr, we seem bound for another goal fest. Meanwhile, Botswana have one of the leakiest defence lines, which adds justification for this prediction.
Senegal vs Botswana - Other Interesting Predictions
Sadio Mane to score
In our second prediction, we’ll back Sadio Mane to score. The forward is Senegal’s all-time leading scorer with 50 goals so far. He scored a hat-trick in Senegal’s last match and has found the back of the net in each of his last two matches with his club.
Mane also netted in the first-ever meeting between Senegal and Botswana.
