Seattle Sounders vs Monterrey Prediction & Betting Tips - Leagues Cup

A fascinating matchup to close out Group B of the new-look Leagues Cup pits the Seattle Sounders from Major League Soccer up against Liga MX’s CF Monterrey. Seattle are up against it here if they are to advance to the knockout stages of the competition. A 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake in their opener means that the Sounders now have to beat Monterrey by three goals to qualify. Should they win by an exact 3-0 scoreline, a fair play points tiebreaker would decide the standings. All three three group teams would have the exact same points, goals scored and goals allowed in that situation. Seattle are sitting pretty in the fair play department as they have accumulated only one yellow card compared to Monterrey’s two and RSL’s four plus a red card (-7 points). 

They’ll certainly have their work cut out for them as they will be facing off with arguably the best that the Liga MX has to offer. Monterrey finished the combined 2022/23 Apertura and Clausura season as the top team with 23 wins, six draws and only five defeats. They showed their quality with a 3-0 away win over a Real Salt Lake team that had been in superb form coming into the fixture. Monterrey have now won their last three on the bounce and have started the new season with an unbeaten streak of four games.

The Sounders come into this fixture on a three match winless run with two of those outings ending in defeat. The Rave Green are having a fairly good year in the MLS so far as they sit fourth in the Western Conference, only four points off leaders St. Louis City. Brian Schmetzer’s men have delivered strong performances this season at Lumen Field with six wins from their 13 MLS fixtures and a +9 goal differential. The Sounders are on a four match unbeaten run at home although three of those matches ended in a stalemate.
