Schalke will be at home against Hertha Berlin to begin their 2025/26 Bundesliga 2 campaign this Friday. The two teams struggled last season and will be keen on a strong start to bolster their promotion hopes. Below is our prediction for this match.
Schalke will be hoping this is the season they finally get it right and make a return to the top tier. The Blues have been in the second tier since 2023 and last season almost suffered relegation.
They finished 14th and were just three points above the drop zone. The appointment of Miron Muslic as manager will bring a sense of new hope for the five-time German Cup champions.
Schalke, who finished the previous campaign with six consecutive defeats, were shaky during preseason and won just two of six games.
Hertha Berlin were relegated, together with Schalke, to the Bundesliga 2 in the 2022/23 season. In those two years in the second tier, they haven’t come close to getting promoted.
They will have another bite at the cherry this season. Stefan Leitl starts his first full campaign after being appointed in February. The German did well to stop Hertha’s free fall, as before his arrival, the Old Lady had won just twice in 12 games.
Hertha, who demolished Schalke 5-2 at home last year, lost just one of six preseason fixtures.
