Fourth seeded Sara Sorribes Tormo faces qualifier Harmony Tan in the Monterrey Open second round. Tormo is the world number 36, but had been 32nd in the previous weeks list. The Spaniard had played three tournaments this year prior to this week. Her best performance has been a quarter final in Guadaljara last week, losing in straight sets to Maria Bouzkova. Tormo had a few problems in the first round of this event. The first set was won against Kamilla Rakhimova but then lost the second on a tie-break. The third set was a lot more comfortable though and she won that 6-1 to reach the last 16.

Harmony Tan is ranked 99th in the world which is her highest ranking. That will be broken in the next list though as the French player is up to 91st in the live rankings. Tan had to qualify to get into the main draw and won two matches without losing a set. The main draw first round saw Tan defeat wild card Renata Zarazua (ranked 143rd), winning the first set 6-1 and leading 1-0 in the second before her opponent retired. This is a much tougher match for her and you can back Tormo to get the win.
