Bruce Arena’s free-scoring San Jose Earthquakes host Javier Mascherano’s Inter Miami in a potentially ground-shaking Major League Soccer clash this week. The Quakes are the most entertaining team in the MLS this season, and face the Herons who have had their wings clipped in recent weeks with some poor results. Who will our match prediction favour in this clash between two attack-minded teams?

It’s been a strange season for the Earthquakes so far. They have scored the most goals in the MLS (26), but also conceded 20. They lie seventh in the Western Conference with 16 points after twelve games and 17th in the overall MLS table. Inter Miami lie sixth in the total MLS table with 21 points from eleven games. That is enough to place them fourth in the Eastern Conference, but with a game in hand on the teams around them in the table.

San Jose won their opening two MLS games, but then won just one of the next eight, losing six. Since then though their form has improved. They thrashed Portland Timbers 4-1 in their previous home game and then earned a fine 2-0 away win at the weekend against Colorado Rapids.

It’s been a miserable time for Inter Miami in terms of results. Having lost both legs of their CONCACAF Champions League semi-final against Vancouver Whitecaps (2-0 and 3-1), they bounced back with a 4-1 home win over New York Red Bulls, but then at the weekend were thrashed 4-1 away to Minnesota United. The Herons have lost four of their last five in all competitions.
