Third-placed St. Louis City will play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps, who are seventh in the MLS Western Conference, on Sunday. The hosts are on 22 points to date, three points behind LAFC at the top of the table and five ahead of their opponents. St Louis won their last match in impressive fashion, beating Sporting KC 4-0 at home. That win was much-needed for the hosts, as it brought an end to a three-match winless run, which included two losses and a draw. St Louis shot out the blocks this season, recording five consecutive wins in the early weeks. However, they were unable to keep it going, recording just two wins, one draw, and four losses in the last seven. In six home matches this season, St Louis have won four and lost two. These sides played out a stalemate in a friendly match at the start of the season, but the hosts will fancy their chances of taking all three points from this one. 

The Vancouver Whitecaps bounced back well from consecutive defeats to beat the high-flying Seattle Sounders 2-0 in their last match. They’ve gotten themselves into the top half of the table and will want to kick on from here. Over their last six matches, the visitors have won two, drawn two, and lost two; however, their major difficulty has come on the road. The Whitecaps have not won any of their six away matches this term, losing three and drawing three. Their winless away record stretches all the way back to June last year for a total of 14 matches without a win on their travels. The visitors have only kept one clean sheet in that time and will likely find it difficult to avoid defeat in this match.
