World number 145 Olga Danilovic continues her bid to reach the main draw of the 2021 US Open. The Serb faces American Sachia Vickery who began this week ranked 206th. Whoever wins this match takes on either Caroline Dolehide or Victoria Duval with the victor going into the main draw. Dalinovic was ranked as high as 96th three years ago but started 2021 in 183rd place. The Serb reached the second round of the Australian Open this year and had a win over Vickery in that event, losing only five games. May saw her reach an ITF semi-final in Spain but her best performances in a WTA tournament were in Budapest and Palermo in July on clay as she reached the last eight but didn't beat anyone ranked in the top 100. Paula Ormaechea was beaten in the last round of this event, wining in straigth sets.

Sachia Vickery is ranked 206th, a big drop from her career high 73rd in July 2018. This year has seen her drop 48 places so she could do with getting to the first round of the US Open. Vickery also had success on clay this year, getting to the last four in Charlottesville. On hard courts, the American made it to the semi-final of an ITF tournament in the Dominican Republic, though she didn't beat anyone ranked in the top 300.
