Jan-Lennard Struff is one of the best unseeded players at Roland Garros this year. He takes on qualifier Roman Andres Burruchaga in the first round of this outdoor clay court Grand Slam. Struff has already won one clay court title this year winning the BMW Open in Munich. That included him beating Felix Auger-Aliassime and Holge Rune. He has been as high as 21st in the rankings (achieved last year) but was in 41st position at the start of this tournament and 31st in the Live ATP Race. Struff slipped down the rankings due to losing the ranking points earned when getting to the final in Madrid last year. He lost in the last 16 in Madrid this year but did beat Ugo Humbert and took Carlos Alcaraz to a final set. Struff has reached the fourth round at Roland Garros in both 2019 and 2021.

Roman Andres Burruchaga is the world number 144 in the latest published rankings, a new career-high. He's beaten that though after qualifying for this Grand Slam and is now in 140th position and 111th in the ATP Race. He had to win three matches to make into the main draw but had a struggle in his final qualifier. The first set was lost to Jozef Kovalik but he won the next two, though a tie-break was needed in the second. Barrachaga (whose father won the World Cup with Argentina) is in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time. He got to the last 16 in Cordoba which was his first ATP Tour main draw. A couple of clay court Challenger Tour semi-finals have been reached. We tip Struff to win this match in straight sets.
