The Italian Serie A enters matchday 31. In this round, AS Roma will welcome Juventus on Sunday in one of the high-profile matches. The two teams are separated by only three points in the standings, with fifth-placed Juventus having the advantage over their sixth-placed hosts. Roma's recent form has found favor with bookies, as predictions for the match lean heavily towards a home win.

This is a crucial tie for both sides in the race for European football for next season. A win for either team will, therefore, play a big part as we enter the final stretch of the season. Going into their second meeting of the league campaign, both will be keen to improve on their drab 0-0 draw in the reverse match. That was the second successive time that they shared the spoils.

While the two sides were okay with the earlier meeting ending goalless, a similar result this time will leave many regrets. Let's look at the preview going into the match.

Roma - Juventus: Form Analysis

Roma asserted their superb form in defeating Lecce 1-0 away from home on matchday 29. They have now won nine of their last 11 games across all competitions, and only once have they been defeated in this stretch.

Roma, who’ve had three coaches this season, were 12th in the league with only three wins when Claudio Ranieri took over. That was back in November, and the veteran tactician has steered them to 12 wins in the league and 17 across all competitions.

I Giallorossi have amassed 52 points and are tied with seventh-placed Lazio. The most in-form team in the Serie A, the Capital club, hasn’t lost any of its last 14 league games and is on a seven-match winning streak.

Both Juventus and Roma have had coaching changes this season.

Two weeks ago, Juventus became the latest team to make a coaching change this season. Former Bianconeri Igor Tudor was chosen to replace Thiago Motta after a torrid run of results.

In his first game in charge, Juve battled to secure a 1-0 victory over Genoa. The win, their third in the last seven outings, ended a run of back-to-back losses.

The Old Lady have accumulated 55 points and are holding on to the final Europa League qualifying spot. A win in the Capital could move the record Italian champions into the Champions League places.

Roma & Juventus Squad Analysis

Key to Roma’s resurgence has been their solid rearguard. Mile Svilar has been a pillar between the sticks and is one of the candidates for the Golden Glove.

With Roma largely using a back three, the Serbian has proven his worth in the team, acting as sweeper on six occasions. His 12 clean sheets have propelled the team and even when not keeping clean sheets, he has been outstanding in the 30 matches he played.

Upfront, Artem Dovbyk has carried the offensive load and has managed a team-leading 16 goals in all competitions.

However, Roma will miss their talisman Paulo Dybala, who is set to sit out the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury. Another six-goal absentee for Roma will be Alexis Saelemaekers, who is suspended after picking five bookings.

With both teams fielding top forwards, Svilar and Di Gregorio will be busy in goal.

Just like Svilar, Michele Di Gregorio has been one of the bright sparks for Juventus this season. The Italian has racked up 12 clean sheets and leads the Golden Glove race. On seven occasions he served as sweeper but his other big quality is his passing range. Di Gregorio has had 123 accurate long balls and a pass accuracy of 75.7%. Meanwhile, he hasn’t been cautioned all season.

On the opposite end of the pitch, Dusan Vlahovic has managed a team-high 15 goals with nine coming in the league. He, however, hasn’t scored in over a month and will be itching to get going under a new coach.

Juan Cabal, Gleison Bremer, Federico Gatti and Arkadiusz Milik are all ruled out for the better part of the season remainder with various injuries.

Our Roma vs Juventus Prediction

Our prediction for Roma v Juventus on the goals market is for under 2.5. This is a six-pointer in the race to secure a European spot for next season. Losing here will be detrimental for either team as the season heads into the final stretch. We expect to see a closely fought battle with more emphasis being placed on defence.

Roma and Juventus are among the top defensive teams in the Serie A and have kept close to 30 clean sheets between them. Howver, they aren't the most potent of teams on the opposite end of the pitch.
