AS Roma have registered one of the most impressive runs across the top five leagues as they head into this match. Last season they closed with five straight league wins and have started this one with four. Their push to better their record of 11 consecutive wins is, however, set to encounter serious headwinds.
When playing as hosts, Roma have not beaten Inter Milan in the last nine meetings. They have a generally poor run in this fixture, winning just two of their last 10 matches against Inter. Roma, in their current form, will feel capable of changing this poor run, especially as they are doing well defensively. The Giallorossi have conceded just one goal in the league, making theirs one of the tightest defences in Europe.

Inter Milan will arrive for this match having recovered from their 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League. One area of concern they will want to address is their defence, after rising from 2-0 down last time out to beat Udinese 5-3. It now means Cristian Chivu’s men have conceded seven goals in the last five matches.
The champions will, however, be encouraged by their attack, having scored 14 times in their last five matches. Inter will travel confidently for this encounter, having last lost away to Roma in 2016. Much has been said about Roma’s defence but there is still a lot about their attack. That can’t pass by without the mention of Paulo Dybala. The Argentine has rediscovered his best and turns out to be a key man in attack for the hosts.
He has provided four assists in as many league matches. Last season, he only managed six assists all season, and Roma will have reason to bank on the 32-year-old. At a personal level Dybala will want to banish his poor run against Inter, having lost 10 times in 22 meetings with the champions.
Inter will miss a big-game player in Hakan Calhanoglu, who is out with a groin injury.
Inter Milan will want to put up a better defence in this encounter if they are to get much from it. The fact that they’ve conceded 2+ in each of their last three matches means it needs to be addressed. The problem then is that the players who could do that are unavailable.
Englishmen Djed Spence and John Stones would have been great for the Nerazzurri. However, Stones has yet to feature in one full game for the Italian giants as he struggles with a thigh injury.
