Empoli and Roma will be looking to better their opening day outings in the Italian Serie A when they meet on Sunday. Both teams drew their respective matches and will not want to lose more ground. Predictions have visitors Empoli as underdogs here but they’ll be eyeing a second straight win against Roma.

The hosts suffered a rare 2-1 loss in their last meeting with Empoli and hope to return to their dominance in this fixture. Roma had eight straight wins against Empoli before their last encounter. That defeat is their only one against Empoli in 17 matches.

They will be looking to rise again after their 0-0 draw with Cagliari on the opening weekend. That result left Roma with just a win in their last six league matches. However, they have four wins in six league games at home.

Empoli came alive in the latter stages of last season to avoid relegation. Among the teams they beat then was Roma and that victory turned crucial in their survival quest. It was just their ninth win of the season on the final day and they’ll look to do better this time.

After an opening day 0-0 draw with Monza, Roberto D’Aversa’s side will be eyeing a better result. Three wins in their last 13 league matches doesn’t constitute a good run. The fact that they lost seven times in that period places them as underdogs here.

Of more concern, though, should be the fact that Empoli failed to score in nine of those 13 matches. Meanwhile, they have no win in the last six away league games, and only scored once.
