Rennes take on Lille in a Ligue 1 match this Sunday, looking to stretch further away from the relegation region. At the start of this round, Rennes, the hosts here, are 12th while Lille have dropped to fifth in the standings. Read on for our prediction of this match.

Rennes’ season hasn’t been very encouraging but there are smiles generated from their last two matches. The hosts are coming from back-to-back Ligue 1 wins for the first time since February last year.

They beat Saint Etienne 2-0 in the latest match, having earlier beaten Strasbourg 1-0 at home. The Strasbourg win was crucial, as it halted their run of four straight losses.

While Rennes celebrate a first in the season, Lille will be keen not to go winless in three matches for the third time this season.

Les Dogues are coming from a shock 2-1 loss at home to Le Havre in their last match. That defeat came hot on the heels of their elimination from the French Cup by little known Dunkerque.

The visitors have also lost their defensive solidity, conceding in each of the last eight matches. Fortunately, they haven't lost their scoring boots, failing to score only once in 22 matches.

Lille have just a win in their last seven away matches, and seemingly are low in confidence after back-to-back away defeats.
