Real Madrid begin the defence of their Spanish Super Cup with a semi-final against Valencia. The winner of this match (which is being played in Saudi Arabia) will face either Real Betis or Barcelona in the final on January 15. Real have to bounce back from a surprising 2-1 loss at Villarreal last weekend and one that's left them three points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona. They qualify for this four-team cup competition after winning La Liga last season. They had won two games in a row since the Spanish season resumed but then lost their second away league game in three. Real have won their last three games against Valencia and not lost to them since 2020.

Valencia qualified for the Spanish Super Cup by being the runners-up in the Copa del Rey last season. This is their first Super Cup appearance since the 2019/20 season and have won this competition once but way back in 1999. They are 11th in La Liga and only four points above the relegation zone. The weekend saw them lose 1-0 at home to Cadiz and only one of their last eight games in La Liga has been won. Since the resumption of the Spanish season they've lost two league games but did win at La Nucia in the Copa del Rey. Their La Liga away form is poor this season with only one win recorded. Back Real Madrid to make it into the final.
