Manchester City have had a difficult season and again last week showed how they can turn leads into defeats. The English Premier League champions (not for long though) led Real Madrid 1-0 and 2-1 in the first leg but still ended up losing the game 3-2. Saturday saw them keep a rare clean sheet and they may need to do so again in Madrid if wanting to reach the last 16.

Real Madrid did well to come away from the Etihad with a victory. They will put their years of experience in this competition as they look to progress to the next round. The winners of this tie will face either Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid in the last 16. Could Real take on Atletico in the next round?

Real Madrid drew 1-1 at Osasuna on Saturday but remained top of La Liga. They are unbeaten in their last seven home matches in all competitions. In the Champions League, they did lose to Milan this season but their other three games have been won with 13 goals scored. Nine of their last 11 matches in all competitions have seen both teams get on the scoresheet and that looks very likely to happen here on Wednesday.

Will their weekend win boost City's confidence?

Manchester City beat Newcastle United 4-0 at home on Saturday. That was a welcome clean sheet and the Marmouch hat-trick was greatly appreciated too. The Blues do still have a defence that can look very fragile at times.

Away form isn’t impressive either with their last three in the Champions League all being lost. Ten goals have been conceded in those matches. Unless their strikers hit top form, they will need to tighten up at the back to have any chance of making it into the next round.

Real Madrid will be able to play Jude Bellingham in this match. He was sent off against Osasuna on Saturday but will serve a domestic suspension. Real will hope he can be on the scoresheet just as he was when scoring the late winner in the first leg.

Mbappe is in good scoring form for them as are Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo. They will be confident of being able to score goals in this match.

Marmoush and Haaland to the rescue?

For the past few seasons Manchester City have been relying on Erling Haaland for goals. He's still a major threat but the new kid in town Omar Marmoush has already proved to be a welcome addition to their squad.

Marmoush scored a first-half hat-trick against Newcastle United on Saturday. With City needing to win this match in 90 minutes to have any chance of progressing, they will hope for more goals from their new signing.

Erling Haaland is expected to be fit for City after he had to come off early on Saturday with a knee injury. City will need to try and control the midfield and then create some chances for Marmoush and Haaland. Kevin De Bruyne didn't play against Newcastle but is expected to play on Wednesday.

City's defence has been so fragile in recent months. With Real having the triple threat of Vinicius Jr, Belingham (who won't be suspended for this game) and Mbappe, you have to wonder how the Premier League side can keep a clean sheet in this game.
