Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid: Form Analysis
Real Madrid enter this Super Cup semi-final in rip-roaring form and look like the team to beat in the division. To go along with their perfect 100% winning record in the Champions League group stage, Ancelotti’s side are 15-3-1 in the Spanish top flight and tied on points atop the table with Girona. They’re riding a 19 match unbeaten run across all competitions with 16 wins and three draws. A 3-1 away win over lower-division Arandina in the Copa del Rey on the weekend means that Los Merengues have now won their last five on the spin as well. Real Madrid have now scored 27 goals and have conceded just eight over their last 10 fixtures.
Atletico haven’t quite hit the highs that their city rivals have as we reach the halfway mark in the campaign. Los Colchoneros are battling for a spot in the top four in La Liga, sitting fifth and even on points with fourth-place Athletic Club. Their Copa del Rey victory on the weekend marked only their second in the last five matches as they have lost twice and drawn the other. Atletico, so often renowned for their defensive tenacity under Diego Simeone, have been a much more forward-thinking side this season. However, this has led to an increase in their defensive vulnerability which has been on full display in recent outings. Atletico have now conceded 10 goals in their last five matches.

Real Madrid & Atletico Madrid Squad Analysis
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was able to rest almost his entire first-choice 11 in the cup win on the weekend. This should make the trip to the Middle East on short rest a bit easier to manage. The Italian manager has only a few injury concerns to deal with ahead of this game. He’ll be without defenders Eder Militao and David Alaba who are both long term absences with serious knee injuries. They’ll also be without their first-choice shotstopper in Thibaut Courtois who had ACL surgery earlier in the season, as well as Lucas Vazquez with a hamstring problem. The good news is that Madrid will likely be able to call upon Toni Kroos, Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga.
Atleti manager Diego Simeone, meanwhile, opted to field a good percentage of his first team in their Copa del Rey victory over Lugo on Saturday. Atletico will be unable to call upon the services of five players ahead of this trip with Thomas Lemar, Pablo Barrios and Vitolo all recovering from knee injuries. They’ll also be without fullback Reinildo who is representing Mozambique at the 2024 AFCON.
Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid Key Points
- Real Madrid should have a more rested squad as much fewer of their first-choice starting 11 was involved in the Copa del Rey match four days prior.
- Los Blancos are looking unstoppable at the moment with a 16-3-0 record over their last 19 competitive fixtures and having only one defeat on the season.
- Atletico Madrid have only two wins from their last five games, one of which came against a lower-division side.
- Atleti have managed just a single clean sheet over their last five, conceded 10 goals during that stretch.
- Real Madrid have amassed a giant +38 goal differential across the league and Champions League with 56 goals scored and 18 conceded in 25 games.
