Qatar will open their quest for the Asian Cup with a game against Lebanon in Group A of the competition. The tournament hosts, Qatar will hope to have a head start in a group that also has China and Tajikistan. In their final tune-up game ahead of this competition, Qatar suffered a 2-1 loss to Jordan. That defeat brought to an end a three-game winning run and they couldn’t also keep a third straight clean sheet. Qatar will however go into this game as favorites, carrying a good run against Lebanon. In seven matches against Lebanon, Qatar are unbeaten. They have in that run, won five matches without conceding a goal. Coming into this game, Qatar have had an impressive scoring run too. The tournament hosts have scored at least three goals in three of their last four matches. They kept clean sheets in two of their last three matches. A result of their high scoring matches, seven of Qatar’s last 10 matches have had over 2.5 goals.

Lebanon remains one of the lowest ranked nations heading to the tournament, at position 99. They will hope to rise from their recent unimpressive run, having closed their preps with a 1-0 loss to Saudi Arabia. That defeat however came right after a 2-1 win over Jordan, their only win in six matches. In that run of six matches, they’ve lost three times. That, and a poor run against Qatar doesn’t augur well with their hopes of a bright start to this competition. Lebanon have scored more than a goal in just two of their last 10 matches. Coming into this game, they’ve failed to score in two of the last four matches. It is worse for them when playing away from home. In the last five away matches, Lebanon have suffered four losses, conceding more than once in three of the five games. This will be only their second time at the Asian Cup after their 2019 debut. Lebanon lost two of their three matches at the 2019 edition.
