The first Championship action of 2025 at Deepdale takes place on Saturday as home side Preston North End host Oxford United in a match between two of the more in-form teams in the bottom half. Will the Lilywhites continue their solid home form, or will our prediction favour the U’s to continue their good recent form?
The home side have gone six games unbeaten at Deepdale since losing 3-1 to Bristol City back in November. Four of those matches have finished as a draw and goals have been hard to come by for the home side with just seven scored in those six unbeaten games.
Preston warmed up for the game with home wins over Hull City (1-0) and Sheffield Wednesday (3-1) but they struggled on New Year’s Day, when losing 3-1 away to West Bromwich Albion.
Visitors Oxford United came into the festive period having lost six of their previous seven, drawing just once. However, the U’s enjoyed a fantastic festive period, winning all three of their games to move them out of the relegation zone and up to 18th in the table.
A battling 3-2 home win over Cardiff on Boxing Day set the tone and was followed by a 2-0 win over Plymouth, also at home. Then Oxford ended a run of five consecutive away defeats in their last game, beating mid-table Millwall 1-0 at the New Den.

Our Preston North End vs Oxford United Prediction
While both these teams sit in the bottom half of the table, two points and three places apart, they are both in good form. Preston are unbeaten in six at home, but a lot of those games have been draws. Oxford's away form is poor, but they have won three in a row, including a 1-0 win away at Millwall in their most recent game. This points to this match being a close affair with a draw a genuine good value bet.
Our prediction for the Preston North End vs. Oxford United Championship match is: A Draw.
