It’s a big year for England as they defend their European title in the summer. Before that they begin their Nations League campaign with an away game against Portugal. Can the Lionesses get a win? Here’s our match prediction.

Also in this group are world champions Spain and Belgium. The winner goes into the finals and third place takes you into the relegation play-offs. Finishing bottom sees the country relegated to League B.

England won their last match with a 1-0 home win over Switzerland. That made it three games without defeat since losing at home to Germany in the summer. On the road, the Lionesses are unbeaten in their last four matches.

Portugal were relegated in the last Nations League but won promotion thanks to their Euro 2025 qualifying results.  Theyare unbeaten in their last 12 internationals with ten of those matches being won. Their most recent game saw them win 2-1 away to the Czech Republic in the European qualifiers.

Home form has seen them go seven without defeat. The last fixture seeing them being held to a 1-1 draw by the Czechs and that secured their place at Euro 2025. Their wins have come against lower ranked sides. We tip England (fourth in the rankings) to win and lead at half and full time.

England have a tough Nations League group that includes world champions and winners of the last Nations League, Spain and Belgium who have a recent win over them. Beating Portugal home and away is going to be vital for them.
