Matchday 15 in the Portuguese Primeira Liga sees third-place FC Porto looking to close the gap on the league leaders when they host bottomfeeders Chaves. Porto suffered a tough 2-0 away defeat to first-place Sporting in their last league fixture, a result which now sees them trailing the Lions by three points in the standings. The hosts were able to recover with a 2-1 home win over second division side Leixões in the Taca da Liga, although they needed an opposition red card and a 85th minute penalty to squeeze by. Nonetheless, the victory represents the third in the last four matches across all competitions for the Dragons. It was also the seventh match in the last 10 that Porto have scored at least two goals with the side looking in fine form on the attacking side. They’ve now netted 23 goals during that 10 game stretch.

After securing seventh-place in the top flight a year after promotion, Chaves will have had high hopes coming into the 2023/24 campaign. However, a rough first half of the season means the Valentes will instead be looking at a relegation scrap this time around. The visitors have managed just 10 points on a 3-1-10 record, putting them two points from safety. The bright side, however, is that the team experienced an immediate bounce upon appointing manager Moreno at the end of September. The 42-year-old has overseen 10 matches in charge so far, winning four and drawing once. While the visitors defensive record is certainly concerning, conceding a league high 38 goals so far, 17 of those came in the first four fixtures. Chaves suffered a 3-1 home loss to Casa Pia in their most recent fixture, marking their fifth loss in the last six games.
