Familiar foes will meet this week in the MLS when LA Galaxy visits Providence Park to take on the Portland Timbers in a Western Conference showdown this Saturday. The hosts come into this match off the back of a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Atlanta United last week, which saw them slip to 10th place in the Western Conference standings, with just one win in their first four matches of the season, along with three losses. That win came in the season opener against Sporting KC, meaning that Portland is now on a three-match losing run, in which they conceded 10 goals while scoring four. The last meeting between these sides ended in a 1-1 draw, and Portland may well be happy with a similar scoreline in this one as they try to get their season on track. 

LA Galaxy, meanwhile, has also been suffering a difficult start to the season and is yet to register a win. The visitors are currently in 12th place in the Western Conference with two points in three matches and a record of two draws and a loss in their first three matches of the season. Galaxy was beaten comprehensively in their first match of the season against Dallas before playing out a stalemate against second-from-bottom Sporting KC and a 1-1 draw to Vancouver last week. Over the last couple of seasons, LA Galaxy has been the superior side in this contest, unbeaten in their last four matches against this opponent, winning three and drawing the most recent. They will see this as a good opportunity to get back to winning ways, though they will need to tighten up in denfese to get the job done.
