Plymouth Argyle will be at home against Sutton United to kick off their 2023/24 FA Cup campaign. This will be the first time that the two teams are facing one another. After two successive fourth-round appearances, Plymouth were last season eliminated in the first round of the FA Cup. Starting this season’s campaign in the third round, Kevin Nancekivell’s men will be eager to not suffer another early elimination. The Pilgrims arrive for this match having not won in four games. They have drawn three times with the most recent stalemate coming last time out at home. Seeking to claw further away from the relegation zone in the Championship, Plymouth were held to a 3-3 draw by Watford.

Sutton United are also seeking to get back to winning ways. The League Two side hasn’t won in two outings and drew 1-1 with Newport last time out. Sutton have been in worse shape this season than Plymouth and have managed only nine wins in 33 matches across all competitions. The only competition in which they are yet to taste defeat is the FA Cup and they will be eager to keep it that way. United defeated fifth division side Fylde 2-1 in the first round and then seventh tier side Horsham fell 3-0. Both matches had them as hosts. The Us’ best-ever result in the FA Cup came seven seasons ago when they rose to the fifth round. This is the first time since then that they have gone past the second round.
