Welcome to our match prediction for the Championship clash this weekend between struggling Plymouth Argyle and Oxford United. Wayne Rooney’s Pilgrims need a result after two heavy defeats in a row, while Des Buckingham’s visiting U’s also badly need a win after a run of just one win in their last 13 games.
The pressure is most certainly on Wayne Rooney and his team after going four games without a win, losing both their last two in heavy fashion. They were beaten 6-1 away at Norwich and then followed that up last weekend with a 4-0 defeat away to Bristol City.
The Pilgrims have now shipped 38 goals this season, comfortably the most in the division and they currently occupy 21st place in the table, just one place and two points above the relegation zone. However, one positive is that they are unbeaten in their last five at home, winning three.
Visiting Oxford United are yet to win an away game this season and in eight away games, they have picked up just two points, losing all of their last three matches on the road. In fact, Des Buckingham’s team have lost five of their last seven to drop to 18th in the table.
They come into this game having lost 3-0 away to Sheffield United and followed that up with a 1-1 home draw with Millwall last weekend. That was an important point as it ended a run of three successive defeats in the league.

Our Plymouth vs Oxford United Prediction
Our prediction for the Plymouth Argyle vs. Oxford United Championship match is: Plymouth Argyle to win.
Neither of these sides have particularly good form over the last few weeks, but the data that really stands out in this game is that Plymouth have a pretty solid home record, whereas Oxford's away form in the league is woeful. That comparison of form between the two teams is the standout fact that makes this game a relatively confident one to back the home team to land a much-needed victory.
