Orlando Pirates will look to maintain the pressure on the top three sides in the PSL when they take on a struggling Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday evening. The hosts are in fourth place in the league standings, while the visitors are bottom of the table. Pirates have been in mixed form this season and head into this match currently on 29 points after 18 league games. They trail Supersport United, who currently occupy the CAF Confederation qualification spot by two points. The Buccaneers booked their place in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a dominant 6-0 win over lower league outfit Crystal Lake a couple of weeks ago and following that up with a 1-0 win over Polokwane City in league over the weekend. That result, extended their current unbeaen run to three matches in all competitions, including holding league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw in the first match following the international break. At Orlando Stadium this season, Pirates have amassed 16 points (W5 D1 L2) out of a potential 24 in eight PSL matches and are the favourites in this one. 

Meanwhile, Cape Town Spurs’ return to the top flight this season has not gone as they would have hoped. They have been rooted to the bottom of the table for the vast majority of the season and have only managed ten points in 18 league games to date. However, since returning from the international break, they have shown major signs of improvement, racking up back-to-back wins, beating Amazulu 3-1 and following that with a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday afternoon. Those results have pulled them within three points of Richards Bay, who are currently in the sole relegation playoff spot. Still, Spurs are seeking their first win in away league matches this season, as they have seven losses and one draw on the road. The visitors have only won three matches this season, though one of those was against this opponent in the reverse fixture back in November.
