Nuno Borges attempts to avoid losing in round one of the US Open for a second successive year. He takes on fellow unseeded player Federico Coria in the first round of this hard court Grand Slam. Here's our match prediction.

Borges has lost in the first round of his last two Grand Slams. However, before that he made it to round four of the Australian Open which is also played on hard courts. That included a win over Grigor Dimitrov.

He's up to 33rd in the live rankings so just missed out on being seeded. The winner of this match will face either 11th seed Stefanos Tstisipas or unseeded Thanasi Kokkinakis in round two.

Borges won a clay court tournament this year but has had some success on this surface too. A Challenger Tour final was reached in March and an ATP quarter-final in Delray Beach.

Federico Coria is down at 79th in the live rankings and is another clay court specialist. The Argentinian lost in the qualifying rounds of this tournament last year. His best ever US Open result is a second round in 2020 and 2022.

This is only his third hard court tournament of the year. He's yet to get a win and most recently lost in his first match in Winston Salem. He's yet to win a set in a hard court match this year. We tip Borges to win this without dropping a set.
