Top seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic seems to be getting back on track. He takes on the 30th seed Lorenzo Musetti in round three at Roland Garros. Up next for the winner is a last 16 match against either 14th seed Tommy Paul or 23rd seeded Francisco Cerundolo. It's been a worrying time for Djokovic who is down to second in the live rankings. He's yet to reach a final in 2024 and has suffered some surprising defeats. The Serb has lost six matches this year, just one less than he lost in all of 2023. On clay this year, he's reached two semi-finals in three tournaments but been beaten by Tomas Machac, Alejandro Tabilo and Casper Ruud. So far at Roland Garros this year he's beaten Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Roberto Carballes Baena, both in straight sets. He leads Musetti 4-1 in previous meetings, most recently in Monte Carlo this year. He also defeated Musetti in this tournament in 2021.

That was a famous match as Musetti led Djokovic two sets to love. He then won one game in the next two and retired when 4-0 down in the decider. He has beaten Djokovic on clay, that was at last year's Monte Carlo Masters. The Italian is 30th in the live rankings but can climb a place if beating Djokovic. He's bidding to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros for the second successive year. His best form on clay this year has been shown on the Challenger Tour with two finals reached. So far at Roland Garros, he's beaten Daniel Elahi Galan and Gael Monfils without dropping a set. Djokovic looks to be getting back to something like his best form and can win this in straight sets.
