At the start of this season, not many would have imagined how crucial a match between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City would be. Well, it is now one of the most anticipated fixtures in the top-four context in the Premier League. Forest will be at home as the two clash in the 28th round of the league and we have a prediction of the match.

A fresh twist in the top four race awaits, with these two sides separated by a point; Forest being third on 48 and City fourth. The head-to-head record ahead of this match favors City but lately Nottingham have done well at home and City poorly away.

Heading into this game, both sides booked slots in the FA Cup quarter-finals and will feel motivated coming here. Nottingham needed post-match penalties to see off a stubborn Ipswich Town following a 1-1 draw. Man City, meanwhile, came from behind to beat Plymouth Argyle 3-1 at home.

Nottingham Forest - Manchester City: Form Analysis

Nottingham Forest finished a place above the relegation zone last season, but are today dining with Premier League giants. Heading into matchday 28, they are firm contenders for Champions League football.

The London side has already bagged 16 more points than their tally last season and will be fired up for this. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are without an outright win in the last five matches.

Their two wins in the last five matches were both through post-match penalties in the FA Cup. However, they are on a good run at home, unbeaten in nine matches and winning six of them.

In their only win in seven matches, Nottingham thrashed Brighton 7-0!

Manchester City are having a tough season. Their drop has been so massive and at 47 points, they are seriously a shadow of the team that won four league titles in a row.

Even if they were to win all their remaining 11 matches, the champions would not reach closer to the 91 points they managed last season.

Pep Guardiola’s side is already 20 points behind leaders Liverpool, though with a game in hand.

There has been some positivity at the City camp lately. They overcame Plymouth 3-1 in the FA Cup and earlier beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in a league game.

Nottingham Forest & Manchester City Squad Analysis

Nottingham Forest forward Chris Wood has already achieved his best in the Premier League. With 18 league goals going into this round, the striker has bettered his previous best in the league, of 14 goals achieved last season.

In a squad that blends youth and experience well, Wood has been a major beneficiary. His debut goal for Nottingham two seasons ago was against City.

This time he is a more accomplished player and with 33 league goals at Nottingham he will be a favorite to score again. All but one of his goals were scored from inside the box and City will have to watch him.

He has so far taken 49 shots, with 59% of them being on target and carries an active goal threat with an xG of 10.63.

Haaland and Wood have three assists each in the league this season.

It has been a tough season for Erling Haaland, but he is still delivering the goods for Manchester City in attack. The Norwegian has 20 goals in the league, taking his tally at City to 118 and he is just on his third season.

For the first time though, he is playing second fiddle in the Golden Boot race. At the moment, Haaland is five goals behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Like Nottingham’s Wood, Haaland scored most of his goals from within the 18-yard area. Only three of the 20 were from outside the box.

Also, with a 20.3 xG, he is a constant threat to any defence, as 59% of his 97 shots have been on target.

Our Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City Prediction

Manchester City have been the dominant side in this fixture but for the first time, they arrive here in poor form. The champions’ title defence is in tatters and were it not for other teams’ wastefulness, their hopes for a top four finish would have ended.

City have particularly struggled on the road, yet here they meet a team that has done really well at home. Eight times in their last 12 home matches, Nottingham emerged winners. Our prediction for Nottingham Forest v Manchester City is that Nottingham Forest wins the match.

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City Alternative Predictions

Both teams to score

Odds 1.53

These two sides will parade two of the league’s most in-form forwards in Chris Wood and Erling Haaland. In the last four league matches, Wood scored four times. Haaland scored four times as well in City’s last five away league matches. The two teams rarely fail to score in their matches and we expect the same here too. Our second prediction for this match is for both teams to score.
