13th-place Norwich City play host to eighth-placed Preston North End for matchday 20 of the English Championship on Saturday. The hosts have experienced an inconsistent campaign as we approach the halfway mark in the league season. The Canaries started the season strongly before an ugly losing streak saw them treading water. Lately, however, they’ve managed to rediscover some of their earlier form as they enter this fixture on an encouraging run. Norwich City managed a 2-1 away victory over Bristol City in their latest appearance to bring their points total to 26 on the season. Despite sitting 13th in the standings, Norwich remain only four points off a playoff spot in a congested middle of the Championship table. David Wagner’s team has been no stranger to goals this season with their 3.68 average goals per game mark ranking as the most in the division.

Preston North End are looking to build upon last season’s 12th-place finish and have experienced a decent campaign so far. The Lillywhites are eighth with a 28 points total, putting them two points above their opponents today and two points off the top six. Preston were red-hot to start the season, winning six and drawing twice in their first eight matches. They’ve cooled off considerably since then and have now managed just two victories in their last 11 league fixtures. Preston’s most recent stretch of form has them on a three match losing streak following a 2-0 home loss to QPR. It was a particularly disappointing result given the team managed to create just 0.26 expected goals against a QPR team in the relegation zone. It was also the second straight game that they had failed to score.
