The penultimate fixture in the round of 16 at the AIFF Kalinga Super Cup will see NorthEast United taking on Mohammedan on Thursday afternoon. The winner of this match between the Highlanders and the Black Panthers will face either Jamshedpur or Hyderabad in the quarter-finals. Let’s get into the prediction. 

NorthEast United will be setting off on their fourth Super League campaign this week, aiming for a better outcome than last season when they failed to progress beyond the group stage. 

The Highlanders ended the ISL season in fourth place, but were beaten in the Playoff round by Jamshedpur 2-0 at home, despite firing 21 shots at goal and maintaining 70% possession. 

Despite that result, they were very good in attack this season, scoring 46 goals - the second-most in the ISL - with Alaaeddine Ajarie netting a whopping 23 to claim the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards.

Meanwhile, Mohammedan will be making their Super Cup debut this year, but will be hoping for a better performance than they managed in the Indian Super League. 

Indeed, the Black and White Brigade endured a dismal first campaign in the top flight, managing just two wins and seven draws in 24 games to finish bottom of the table with just 13 points. 

However, while they did lose their first league game against this opponent 1-0 at home, they held the high-scoring NorthEast to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture.
