Two continental giants are set to clash when Nigeria Women and Brazil Women meet in Group C of the Olympic Games. Ahead of this encounter in Bordeaux, here we have some stats that define our prediction for the match.

Nigeria are in a class of their own when it comes to African football. However, the Super Falcons, 11-time African champions, will be seeking a first ever win against Brazil. The African giants are returning to the Olympics stage after a 16-year absence.

With only one friendly match, which ended in defeat, Nigeria will silently hope they can upset the odds here. In reality, they are underdogs heading into this encounter and the tournament. The last time they met Brazil was in the 2008 Olympic Games. That ended in a 3-1 defeat.

Brazil Women will be targeting a third straight victory over Nigeria. The very first meeting between them was in 1999, when Brazil emerged 4-3 winners before their 2008 meeting. The As Canarinhas have the experience and players for this level.

At their best, however, they’ve only managed two silver medals at women’s Olympic football events. The legendary Marta is still in the Brazilian team and well firing. In each of their two prep games for this event, they beat Jamaica 4-0, with the forward scoring three of the eight goals.

Only once in their last 11 matches have Brazil lost inside 90 minutes – that was against an equally strong USA side. In their last four matches at the Olympics, Brazil’s only loss came via post-match penalties.
