Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualification is set for a grandstand finish with any of the leading three able to secure a ticket for the showpiece. In one of the matches lined up, Nigeria will be hosting Benin in a match both nations will consider a must-win encounter. We have a prediction below for the match to be staged at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Nigeria have already been dealt a few blows even before the match. Their flight to Uyo had to be delayed after a cracked aircraft windscreen saw their plane reroute to Angola. Despite the talent in their squad, Nigeria arrive for this encounter third in the group with 14 points.
Benin lead the group on 17 points, and while only a draw could be enough, they will be expected to go for a win to be sure. Les Guepards have suffered 16 defeats in 19 previous matches against Nigeria and have never won an away match against the Super Eagles.

Nigeria - Benin: Form Analysis
Nigeria have been anything but impressive in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. In a group they were billed favorites; they have so far struggled, even against the weakest.
In their last outing, the former African champions labored through a 2-1 win against Lesotho. It took second-half goals in a tense match for Nigeria to overcome their lower-ranking hosts, who were even playing away from home.
Skipper William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring with a 55th-minute penalty before Akor Adams added a second late on. Nigeria had to endure tense moments after Lesotho pulled one back. A win may still be insufficient for Nigeria, but only that will better their prospects.
Nigeria must win and hope for a favor from Rwanda to be able to finish top of Group C.
Benin will hope for a result they’ve never achieved before—beating Nigeria away from home. Three points here will guarantee the visitors their first-ever World Cup appearance.
A draw may still work, but that will only be if South Africa drop points against Rwanda or win with less than two goals. In their first meeting in this group, Benin overcame Nigeria 2-1 at home in what stands as their first win against Nigeria in 19 meetings.
A squad devoid of superstars but overflowing with self-belief, Benin will head to Uyo off the back of three straight wins, all with clean sheets. The latest of them was a rare away win, clinching three points off a 1-0 win in Rwanda.

Nigeria & Benin Squad Analysis
Sevilla forward Akor Adams scored the goal that made all the difference for Nigeria in the Lesotho win. On his debut, he came off the bench to score what would be the winner.
He had a great partnership in attack with Victor Osimhen upon his introduction, and Nigeria would want to test that more. While Nigeria need a win here, conceding would seriously jeopardize their chances in this tough pool.
This is why the captain, William Troost-Ekong, will be a crucial player in this game. Known to organize the defence superbly, Troost-Ekong will be the pillar to bring order to a backline that proved shaky in the dying embers of the Lesotho game.
Steve Mounie scored the winner in Benin’s only victory against Nigeria.
The most important player for Benin will not even be on the field of play—Gernot Rohr. The German is Benin’s coach and the architect of Benin’s first-ever win against Nigeria.
That’s not all; Rohr was the Nigeria coach before taking over at Benin. He will be motivated to beat his former employer for a second time. In his strategy, he must keep it tight in defence but there will also be specific instructions for Lorient forward Steve Mounie, who has five goals in the qualifiers.
One of his goals was against Nigeria in the 2-1 win in their first meeting.

Our Nigeria vs Benin Prediction
Benin have worked hard to come this far. A stretch of luck has played a role, but we can’t rule out their output. Now at the crucial stage of the qualifiers, this is a match they’d have wished to be hosting.
They’ve won the last three matches and only failed to score in two of six. Meanwhile, Nigeria are unbeaten in their last four matches and scored in each of them. In their last two, both sides got to score. Our prediction for Nigeria v Benin is for both teams to score.
Nigeria vs Benin - Other Interesting Predictions
Nigeria to win
Les Guepards have had a poor away run, and they’ve particularly struggled against Nigeria. In their last six away matches against Nigeria, Benin lost, and in this make-or-break encounter, things could get tougher.
Nigeria are unbeaten in four home matches, and this looks like a winnable encounter. Our second prediction for this match is for Nigeria to win.
