Ligue 1 football returns this weekend after Coupe de France action put the French top flight on ice last weekend. Nice play host to high-flying Rennes, the third-placed team who have been one of the nearer-challengers to imperious leaders PSG. With 13 points separating them and the reigning champions, Rennes are actually closer in points to Nice, who hang eight points back in 11th. Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is the manager of the Riviera club and his time there continues to be a work in progress. Improving on last season's seventh-placed finish is an achievable aim with a win this Friday potentially taking them as high as fifth. Unbeaten in four Ligue 1 matches, Nice also have a superior head-to-head record in this fixture. Rennes haven't beaten Nice in nine games, a run stretching back to 2015. (Nice have won six of those nine games.)
Knowing all of this, it seems like a good time for Rennes to end this bogey run. They have won six of their last seven Ligue 1 matches, three of which have been away from home. Those three victories on the road also wielded three clean sheets. With Nice having scored in all of their home matches this season, something has to give. Vieira's team have been wildly inconsistent this season and haven't been able to string two wins together since week two. Rennes have underperformed versus Nice in recent years but deserve credit for the way they have risen to the challenge put before them in big fixtures (winning at Lyon, beating PSG at home). We suggest backing Rennes draw no bet.
