12th-place Newcastle will look to derail Hull City’s fairytale start to the 2026-27 Premier League season at St. James’ Park. The Magpies come into this matchday 5 fixture sitting 12th while the Tigers are in dreamland in fourth place.
After a heavy defeat last time out, the home fans will be demanding a response. Newcastle's only win on home turf so far this season came against West Brom in the EFL Cup second round. Their two Premier League home fixtures have both ended 2-2: a stalemate with Liverpool on the opening day, and a dramatic contest with Bournemouth in which they overturned a two-goal deficit to salvage a point.
As for the visiting Hull City, their fans couldn’t have asked for a better start to the campaign as they look to push their unbeaten league record to five games. This will mark the first meeting for these two in the English top flight since January 2015. On that day, Newcastle cruised to a 3-0 victory, although with Hull’s bright start and Newcastle beginning to falter, our prediction backs the visitors to get a result.

Newcastle - Hull: Form Analysis
It was an ugly outing for Newcastle in their Monday night matchday 4 fixture against Leeds away at Elland Road. The Magpies were thoroughly beaten as Leeds raced out to a 3-0 lead before halftime. They added another in the second half to go up 4-0, before a 90th minute consolation goal for Newcastle made it 4-1.
It was the first defeat for Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle after making the switch from the Saudi Pro League to the EPL in the summer. The result sees Newcastle drop to 12th place with five points (1W-2D-1L).
Hull, meanwhile, have been flying high. After winning promotion through the play-off last season and being many peoples’ prediction for the bottom-placed finishing team in the 2026-27 Premier League, the Tigers are defying all odds so far.
Hull held the Chelsea attack to just 0.91 xG while creating 1.36 xG in their 2-2 draw last weekend!
Indeed, Hull deserve immense praise for stifling the dangerous Chelsea attack and arguably deserved all three points in their stalemate at Stamford Bridge. McBurnie and Cho both spurned golden opportunities in the second half which could have given them the win.
The visitors are boasting an unbeaten 2W-2D-0L record in the league, placing them in fourth place with eight points. A 1-0 defeat to Sunderland in the EFL Cup and a goalless draw with Aston Villa two weeks ago mean that Hull are now three matches without a win across all competitions.

Newcastle & Hull Squad Analysis
Yoane Wissa will be the focal point in attack for the hosts and is the main danger man that Hull will look to contain.
The DR Congo international had been deployed in the number 10 role earlier this season, although with the introduction of new signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo into the attacking midfielder role in Jaissle’s 4-2-3-1 system, and the injury to Osula, Wissa is expected to spearhead the attack up front as the number 9.
Jaissle is battling a lengthy injury list, with six players expected to miss out. Among them are key pieces such as Nico Gonzalez, Anthony Elanga, William Osula and Dan Burn.
Oli McBurnie leads the entire Premier League for duels won (air and ground) at 36.
McBurnie’s physicality will once again be key for Hull City’s chances at success here. They’ll concede plenty of the ball and look to hit the Magpies in transition, with the 30-year-old the focal point as the target man.
Hull manager Sergej Jakirović is dealing with an injury crisis himself. There are no fewer than eight injuries to the squad, which has removed a lot of the depth. Among those missing are Nobel Mendy, Hidemasa Morita, Ilyas Ansah and Charlie Hughes.

Our Newcastle vs Hull Prediction
Hull City could just continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season in the north of England on Saturday. The Tigers were fantastic against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the underlying data showed that they were fully deserving of their point.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have failed to convince, ranking towards the bottom of the league in many of the top attacking metrics. An attack that is failing to generate quality chances from open play comes up against a disciplined and confident low block, and this very well could be another frustrating match for the Magpies. Our Newcastle vs Hull prediction: Draw or Hull.

Draw
Hull have proven to be masters at getting results so far in the young 2026-27 Premier League season. And while they may have been somewhat fortunate in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, they arguably deserved all three points in their 2-2 draw away to Chelsea. Hull created more expected goals (1.38 to 0.91) and outshot the Blues (14 to 12). With Newcastle now reeling after a heavy defeat to Leeds and low on confidence, another draw could be on the table here.
