After winning the BMW Open clay court tournament last weekend, Jan-Lennard Struff will hope to go well in the Madrid Masters. He's seeded 23rd in this outdoor clay court tournament and faces unseeded Jaume Munar in round two of this outdoor clay court tournament.  The winner will face either the 13th seed Ugo Humbert or unseeeded Botic van de Zandschulp. Struff reached the final of this tournament last year, being beaten by defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. He had a busy time last weekend with three matches in two days. It all went well though and he beat Taylor Fritz to win the BMW Open, his first ever ATP Tour title after losing three finals. It's a big tournament for Struff as he began it ranked 24th. With all those points to defend from last year, he's 46th in the live rankings. A poor result in Madrid would see him struggling to be seeded at Roland Garros.

Jaume Munar is 73rd in the latest rankings but four places lower in the live list. The Spaniard also did well in this tournament last year, making it to the fourth round. That's two rounds further than he's reached in any other Masters or Grand Slam event. Munar is 69th in the ATP Live Race, 42 places behind his opponent. He played on the South American clay court tour earlier this year and reached two quarter-finals. In recent weeks, his best has been a last 16 in Marrakech. The first round of this tournament saw him beat unseeded Nuno Borges in straight sets. Struff has had plenty of time to get over his weekend exploits and can win this match.
