Aston Villa play their final pre-season friendly on Saturday. They travel to Germany to take on Borussia Monchengladback, just a few days after being beaten by PSG. They have struggled in friendlies and our prediction is Monchengladbach to win or draw.
Villa lost to PSG 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup. The Villans won the Europa League last season, but had already qualified to play in the Champions League in the 2026-27 season. The summer transfer window has not gone well for them though with Rogers and Tielemans being notable departures.
Their international players were missing from the Super Cup game. Watkins, Konsa and Martinez may feature at some point in this game. Other pre-season fixtures have seen the Lions beat Walsall, and BG Pathum United but lose to Porto, Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich.
Borussia Monchengladbach finished 12th in the German Bundesliga last season.
They have had much better results in their pre-season friendlies. Six games have been played and all of them have been won, with 38 goals scored. That included a 15-0 away win against FC Rottach-Egern.
Other wins have come against Wuppertaler SV, Rot-Weiss Essen, Hansa Rostock, Hoffenheim and most recently, an 8-0 win at Velbert. Needless to say that we're not expecting such a wide-margin result from this match.
