Matchday two in the UEFA Champions League sees AS Monaco hosting Manchester City at the Stade Louis II on Wednesday. Will Les Monegasques be able to pull of the upset victory or will it be the Citizens that make it six points from six? Check out our match prediction below!
Monaco return home now with a challenging fixture as they seek their first points of the 2025-26 UCL campaign. They can take encouragement from their strong home record this season, although there is an obvious jump in the level of play with City coming to town. This will be the first matchup between the two sides since the magical 2016-17 campaign which saw Monaco knock out City in the round of 16 and go on to make the semis.
Since being crowned champions of Europe in 2022-23, City have only managed to reach the quarter-finals of this competition once. Last season, they finished 22nd in the league phase and were promptly bounced by Real Madrid in the playoff round. They’re off to a much better start this time around with three points from their opening fixture.

Monaco - Manchester City: Form Analysis
It was the worst possible start for Monaco in their second consecutive season in Europe’s top tier club competition. They were powerless to resist an impressive Club Brugge side that created five clear cut scoring chances and walked away with a 4-1 home victory.
Monaco were able to respond with a 5-2 home victory over Metz but would then go on to lose 3-1 away at Lorient at the weekend. The hosts have now lost two of their last three, but will bank on their perfect 3-0-0 home record to get a result against Manchester City.
Much has been made of Manchester City’s struggles to start the season.
And while there is certainly some valid criticism being levied, Pep Guardiola’s side has quietly responded with four wins from their last five.
The only dropped points during that time was a 1-1 away draw with Arsenal, in which they conceded the equalizer in stoppage time. At the weekend, City thrashed Burnley 5-1 at home for their second win in a row.
In their first match in the league phase, Man City took advantage of 10-men Napoli to beat the Italian champions 2-0 at the Etihad.

Monaco & Manchester City Squad Analysis
Monaco boss Adi Hutter is dealing with an injury crisis at the worst possible time. As many eight players are listed as either injured or suspended, including key defender Thilo Kehrer, defensive midfielder Lamine Camara and first-choice keeper Lukas Hradecky.
Paul Pogba, who has yet to make his Monaco debut, is also considered a doubt to face off against his old rivals.
On the attacking side, all eyes will be on whether or not Ansu Fati can continue his remarkable form. Since joining Monaco on loan, the 22-year-old has now scored four goals in his first three appearances for the club, all of which came from the bench.
Erling Haaland is looking back to his absolute best. It goes to show the incredible standard that the Norwegian has set as many considered his 31 goals in 44 matches last season to be a down year.
Haaland has set a blistering pace so far in 2025-26, already striking for nine goals in seven appearances.
That’s not even to mention the three goals he scored in the Club World Cup. Indeed, Monaco are sure to have their hands full with Haaland who will be looking to score in his eighth straight match for club and country. (when including internationals).
Pep Guardiola has his own injury headache to deal with as Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Alexander Khusanov all miss out, while Rodri is a doubt as well.

Our Monaco vs Manchester City Prediction
High-scoring matches have been a trend of Monaco’s this season and there’s no reason to think it won’t continue here, especially when considering the type of firepower that will be on the field. While they’re dealing with injuries, the hosts still have more than enough attacking talent to breach a City defense that has looked vulnerable this season.
Manchester City, led by the free-scoring Erling Haaland, should be able to score a few against a Monaco side that is really struggling defensively. We could be in for an entertaining matchup in the principality. Our Monaco vs Manchester City prediction: BTTS + over 2.5.
Monaco vs Manchester City - Other Interesting Predictions
Erling Haaland anytime goalscorer
Who else but him? The Norwegian is on a red-hot streak right now, scoring in his last seven appearances for club and country, during which he’s totaled an incredible 13 goals. Haaland to find the net is our second pick, while backing him to score 2+ is a good shout as well.
