A Western Conference matchup on Monday as the 28-26-6 Minnesota Wild welcome the 15-38-5 San Jose Sharks to the Xcel Energy Center. The Wild are in action the night before at the St Louis Blues in a hugely important game for the playoffs hopes of both franchises. This is a sole home game before the Wild go back on the road and they will be hoping to land a win after losing four of their last six here. One of those wins was a crazy 10-7 scoreline over the Vancouver Canucks who are still the top team in the west so the Wild are capable when they are at the top of their game. They have lost some grit in recent weeks with both Pat Maroon and Nick Foligno out injured and could do with finding some ahead of the stretch run as they are eight points out of a wildcard spot at the time of writing.
Injury problems are plaguing the Sharks as well, losing their captain Logan Couture after he had only been back for six games. Tomas Hertl who is second in points for the team has joined him and at the end of February, they also lost goalie Mackenzie Blackwood. This is the second half of a back-to-back situation for them as well, losing all five games on a recent homestand and seven of eight before a trip to Dallas early on Sunday. They shipped 25 goals in those five home games and this is going to be tough for them on the road minus their number-one netminder.
