Millwall’s hopes for a playoff place remain alive ahead of their home match against Portsmouth in the Championship. With seven matches to go in the regular season, the Lions are 13th and Portsmouth 17th. Here’s our prediction for the match.

Millwall suffered yet another blow to their top six push in the 1-0 loss away to Sunderland. They are now six points adrift of the top six in a congested sprint.

With a -3 goal difference, they are the clear underdogs in this race. Their case isn’t helped by the fact they have three wins only in the last 11 home league matches.

Portsmouth will enter this match with completely different targets. Pompey, one of the promoted sides, hope to secure their stay in the Championship. After 39 matches in the league, they are so far achieving that goal.

John Mousinho’s side is coming from a 1-0 win at home to Blackburn Rovers. Having struggled against Millwall before, Portsmouth will hope to carry their home form to this match.

However, their third meeting with Millwall this season paints a bleak picture about Portsmouth’s chances. Millwall won both the league and cup matches hosted by Portsmouth.
