Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough host Stoke City in the Championship this weekend. The Boro have been inconsistent this season winning two, drawing two and losing two of their six league games. Stoke have been even worse, seeing them sack manager Steven Schumacher recently replacing him with Narcis Pelach. Will our prediction give some hope to the Potters for this match, or will the home team prevail?
If Middlesbrough do not win the match, their first-half performance will likely be the cause. All of the five goals Boro conceded in the league had been scored before halftime. They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at rivals Sunderland last week, but they are unbeaten at home, winning one and drawing two of their three games.
One big issue for Boro fans will be revenge as Stoke defeated Middlesbrough 5-0 at the Riverside when the teams met in the Carabao Cup earlier on in the season. However, that result was definitely an exception rather than the rule for the Potters.
Stoke are 17th in the table but have lost their last two games. A 1-0 defeat away to Oxford was followed by a damaging 3-1 home defeat to Hull last weekend. Goals are a big problem for Stoke, who have scored just four all season, conceding nine in reply.
They scored one more in 90 minutes against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup than they have managed in six league games this season.

Our Middlesbrough vs Stoke Prediction
Our prediction for Middlesbrough vs. Stoke City in the Championship is: Under 2.5 Goals.
The data for both these teams this season is very inconsistent with few identifiable trends within it. However, one that can be identified is that many games these teams are involved in do not see many goals. Given the current form of Middlesbrough at home, and Stoke in general, a sensible prediction here is to back this to be a very tight game where only one or two goals may be scored.
