Middlesbrough are bidding to win their fifth home league game of the season. Boro begin this game in 12th place in the Championship and host sixth placed Preston North End. Middlesbrough are only four points behind their opponents who occupy the final promotion play-off position. Saturday saw them lose 3-2 at Bristol City, coming from 2-0 down to draw level but then concede a late goal. Now they begin a tough trio of fixtures with this match being followed by a trip to Leeds United and then a home game against Ipswich Town. Middlesbrough started the new season poorly with only one point earned from their first three home fixtures. Boro have recovered well though with four of the five that followed at home being won. Their only home league loss since September was a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City. They bounced back well from that loss with an impressive 1-0 home win over leaders Leicester City.

Preston North End made an impressive start to this season but have been inconsistent in recent months. Their most recent away league fixture saw them win at Blackburn, ending a run of three away Championship defeats in a row. Saturday looked as if they were going to get another league victory. They led Cardiff City 1-0 at home going into the 96th minute but then the Welsh side equalized and got a winner three minutes later. Preston are now 11 points behind the automatic promotion places. Away form has produced three league wins this season but all bar one came early on in the season. We back Middlesbrough to get a home win.
