Middlesbrough will look to stay ahead of the chasing pack in the playoff race as they host a relegation-threatened Cardiff City. This Championship match at Riverside Stadium on Saturday between the fifth-placed Boro and the 23rd-placed Bluebirds comes with our prediction of a home win.
Middlesbrough start this round with 40 points from 25 matches, but only four points separate them from the ninth-placed Sheffield Wednesday. They are coming off a 1-0 win over Hull, which was their second consecutive league clean sheet.
At home, Boro have drawn their last two league matches, which has somewhat reduced their momentum after winning two games prior to that. Playing Cardiff plays to their advantage, having won their last four matches against them.
Cardiff has a game in hand compared to their hosts and is one point adrift of safety before this round. They battled hard for a 1-1 draw against Coventry on New Year’s Day, playing nearly an entire half with ten men.
The visitors have also won on their last trip, a 2-1 win over Watford, but their record on the road has been poor. That remains their only victory on the road this season, although five draws from their last eight away league matches suggest they are going to be a tough team to beat.

Our Middlesbrough vs Cardiff Prediction
Middlesbrough has an impressive recent record against Cardiff and will hope to extend that with another win here. The home team has been one of the most impressive scoring sides in the division, with only Leeds scoring more goals than Middlesbrough ahead of this round. That could be bad news for Cardiff, who have conceded 39 goals this season, with only three clubs having an inferior defensive record. This could play into Middlesbrough’s hands, and our prediction for Middlesbrough vs Cardiff is Middlesbrough to win.
