Mayar Sherif is attempting to reach the second round at Roland Garros for the fourth successive year. The unseeded Egyptian faces a tough task as she takes on the 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova in this outdoor clay court Grand Slam tournament. Here's our match prediction.

Samsonova comes into this tournament after reaching the Strasbourg final at the weekend. That's taken her to 18th in the live rankings.The Russian lost to Elena Rybakina but took her to three sets. On her way to the final, the Russian's wins had included defeating Paula Badosa and Danielle Collins.

The 26-year-old made it to round three here last year and that's her best performance at Roland Garros. Five of her nine clay court matches played this year have been won.

Mayar Sherif is 84th in the live rankings, a drop of over 20 places since the last list. That's because the Egyptian has just dropped the points earned when reaching last year's Rabat final. Her career-high is 31st and that was achieved a couple of years ago.

 Sherif's last tournament was won with success in the Parma ITF tournament, her second recent title on that circuit. Sherif has struggled on the WTA Tour though and has lost her last three matches.
