Ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on unseeded Matteo Arnaldi for a place in the Roland Garros quarter-finals. Possible opponents in the last eight include the third seed Carlos Alcaraz. Tsitsipas is in the last 16 of this outdoor clay court Grand Slam for the sixth year in row. Three times in the past five years he's got past this stage and that includes being the losing finalist in 2021. The Greek is ninth in the live rankings but only four players have earned more ranking points than him this year. His form had been inconsistent on hard courts but he's been a lot better since the clay season began. He won the Monte Carlo Masters and then followed that up by reaching the final in Barcelona. Round three of this tournament saw him beat unseeded Zhizhen Zhang in straight sets. He's dropped one set so far, that was when losing a tie-break to Daniel Altmaier in the second round.

Matteo Arnaldi is in the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for only the second time and is up to 34th in the live rankings, a new career-high. The previous occasion was in the 2023 US Open and again he's been going well this week. This is only his second time at Roland Garros and last year he was beaten in the second round.  Friday saw him cause a big upset when beating the sixth seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets. The first set went to a tie-break but the Italian won the next two for the loss of only six games. Before that, he'd beaten the 29th seed Arthur Fils in four sets, losing the second. Round two saw just eight games dropped as he defeated wild card Alexandre Muller in straight sets. This season has seen him reach two ATP Tour quarter-finals, one was on clay in Madrid. It's asking a lot for him to beat another top ten player but we believe he can win a set in this match.
