30th seed Matteo Arnaldi has a tough US Open third round match against unseeded Jordan Thompson. Both players have shown good form in this hard court Grand Slam, here's our match prediction.

Arnaldi is going well again in New York after reaching the fourth round of the US Open last year. He had a mixed warm-up for this Grand Slam with an excellent run to the last four in the Rogers Cup.

His last tournament saw him lose in his first match in Cincinnati. That probably came a bit too soon after all his exertions in the Rogers Cup. This week has seen him return to form with two good wins.

Zachary Svajda was beaten in round one for the loss of only six games. Then he defeated Roman Safiullin and again won without dropping a set. Two of the last four Grand Slams have seen the Italian reach the fourth round.

Jordan Thompson only just missed out on being seeded for this Grand Slam. He was in 33rd position when the seedings were determined. He moved up to 32nd in the latest rankings but that was too late.

He's responded well to having to be an unseeded player in New York. Only five games were lost against Constant Lestienne and then he beat seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets to reach round three.

In recent tournaments, the Australian has lost in the final in Atlanta and made it to the last eight in Washington. He had to pull out of the Cincinnati tournament due to injury but looks back to his best now. We tip him to beat Arnaldi.
