Maritimo will host the return leg of their Primeira Liga promotion/relegation playoff tie with Estrela on Sunday. Estrela lead the tie after winning the first leg 2-1 last week at home. The winner on aggregate at the end of Sunday’s match will play in the Portuguese topflight next season. Maritimo finished third from bottom in the Primeira Liga with 26 points. They managed seven wins and five draws in 34 matches. In their final six matches of the season, they managed just one win and lost four times. Despite their evident struggles, Jose Manuel Gomes’ charges will be confident of getting the job done here. Maritimo have had their most success playing at home where six of their seven wins in the just concluded league season came. The Green and Reds have to win here by two clear goals to be assured of retaining their top-flight status.

Estrela won the first leg and now just have to avoid defeat and they will play in the topflight next season. In the first leg, they were coasting to their first clean sheet in six but Claudio Winck pulled one back for Maritimo. Sergio Vieira’s charges finished third in the Liga Portugal 2 with 63 points thanks to 16 wins and 15 losses. They arrived for the first leg though having managed one win from their last four matches. This did not deter them from going out and winning and they will be confident of getting a result here. The Tricolours have now won their last two matches after closing out the regular season with a 4-2 win over Penafiel. Estrela were promoted to the second tier just last season and last played in the Primeira Liga in the 2008/09 season.
