Manchester City can climb back into the Champions League places if they win this match. The Citizens are fifth in the Premier League and host fourth-placed Chelsea who are two points ahead of them. Can City win? Read our match prediction below.

A torrid final few months of 2024 had been replaced by a return to form for City. The goals have been flowing again but then came the 4-2 loss at PSG on Wednesday that shows there are still plenty of problems for Pep Guaridola to try and solve.

Chelsea have struggled for wins of late but beat Wolves 3-1 at home on Monday. Their faint title hopes are even slimmer now but a return to the Champions League is still possible. Manchester City had been unbeaten in six league and cup games before Wednesday's trip to PSG. When they wemt 2-0 up in Paris, it looked like that would become seven. Then they conceded four goals and the Blues slipped back to their bad old ways.

That was the second time in three games that they have conceded at least two goals. 29 Premier League goals have been conceded already this season in 22 games, just five less than they had put past them in their 38 league games last term.

Six home league games have been won this season by City with both teams scoring in the last three. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in 12 of their last 14 home league games.

Chelsea are two points ahead of Manchester City and are unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, Two had been drawn before a 3-1 home win over Wolves on Monday. Earlier in the season their away form was excellent but they've gone three in the league without a victory.

Both teams have scored in seven of their last nine league games. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in eight of the last 11 league games and more could be on the way this Saturday.

The 4-2 loss at PSG on Wednesday was disappointing enough but Ruben Dias only played in the first half. He's now doubtful for this match against Chelsea.

City have been busy in the transfer market this week with three expensie additions to their squad. Vitor Reis, Abukodir Khusanov and Omar Marmoush have all arrived at the Etihad and could feature in this match, though most likely starting on the subs bench. Kyle Walker is on his way to AC Milan on loan.

Jack Grealish was in form at PSG and could start this match but the odds are Guardiola will stick with Savinho.

Will Chelsea keep Sanchez in goal?

Unlike City, Chelsea didn't have a midweek European fixture. They did host Wolves on Monday and that game saw goalkeeper Robert Sanchez make a major error. He seems to have the support of Maresca though and could again be between the sticks.

Chelsea have Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana on their injury list. Mykhayio Mudryk is suspended for this Premier League game. Other doubts are Enzo Fernandez, Reece James and Levi Colwill.
